Can I blame my clumsiness on perimenopause?

If you’ve ever walked into your car while staring at the moon, hit your head on the boot door hard enough to bleed, or gracefully slipped in the bath and thought, “Well, this is how I go out,” welcome, my friend. You might just be in the perimenopause era.
I used to think I was just having “a moment,” but lately, it’s starting to feel like my coordination has taken early retirement. What’s really going on? It turns out, our hormones are not only responsible for mood swings and hot flushes, they also play a starring role in balance, focus, and reaction time.
When estrogen and progesterone start fluctuating, they mess with your sleep, concentration, muscle tone, and even your vestibular system (that’s the fancy word for your body’s sense of balance). Add in a bit of brain fog, tired eyes, and maybe a distraction or two (like the beauty of the night sky), and you’ve got yourself a recipe for accidental comedy and sometimes bruises.
But here’s what I love about this stage of life: we can either get frustrated with ourselves, or we can laugh, learn, and adjust. Clumsiness isn’t a sign of failure;

it’s a reminder to slow down, to soften, to literally watch our step.
So if you’re dropping your phone, bumping into the doorframe, or finding mysterious bruises that you definitely don’t remember earning, take heart. Your body is recalibrating. You’re not broken; you’re becoming.
