Meeting Myself Where I'm At

As I have aged, I’ve realised just how precious my health and wellbeing really are. When you’re younger, everything just works. You bounce back from injuries, you pull all-nighters, you skip warm-ups, and your body just kind of forgives you.
But then somewhere along the line (mid-40s for me) my body started whispering, “Hey, remember me?” Those whispers turn into gentle nudges, and then sometimes a full-blown protest when you ignore them long enough.

At 47, I honestly value my health more than I ever have. It’s not just about looking good or feeling fit anymore; it’s about being able to move freely, to have energy for the things and people I love, to keep showing up in life with vitality and joy.
So today, I started Pilates. Wow! The instructor immediately picked up on every old injury, every area of weakness and instability. I could feel parts of me that have clearly been off duty for a while!
But here’s the thing: I liked it. I liked being challenged. I liked that sense of awareness that comes from slowing down and actually tuning in. Because I know that if I keep at it, it will make a difference.
There’s something deeply empowering about meeting yourself exactly where you are, not wishing you were 25 again, not comparing yourself to others, but just saying, “This is me now, and I’m still investing in me.”
So if you’ve been thinking, “Oh, I should do something for my wellbeing, but it feels too hard” — start anyway. You’re worth the effort. Your future self will thank you.
